Loving God, heal that within us that seeks to exclude others from our community. Help us to overcome our fear of loss and change so that we may welcome those who come here seeking a better life for themselves and their families. Help us to embrace all who share our table. Bring us to awareness of what we might do to uphold their well-being. Guide us in imitation of our brother Jesus, who had a special love for the poor and outcast. Amen.
O God, we ask your blessing on the men and women in Congress and in our state legislatures as they grapple with difficult immigration issues. Let your compassion guide them in crafting laws and policies that recognize the full dignity of each person without distinction. May Your Holy Spirit of Compassion lead them in their deliberations.
Bless those many people in our world today who are uprooted from their homes and living in unfamiliar lands. May they find each day what they need to live. May they find community and belonging, shelter and food, dignified work, and freedom from fear. Bless the people in every land who welcome and assist them. We ask this in the name of Jesus who welcomed all to his table, Amen.
