On August 31 a small group of sisters, consociates, and friends will travel to Kenya, Africa, and will be met by Kenyan Consociate Mary Lieta of Homa Bay. While we are in Kenya, a labyrinth will be built for the villagers under the guidance of Lisa Moriarty, consociate. Althea Johns, CSJ, will guide other travelers and villagers in constructing a much-needed coop to protect chickens from predators. Karleen Reller, consociate, will be doing health screenings for young children orphaned by their parent’s HIV. She is hoping to have at least one or two health care professionals to be part of the team. If interested, call Rosita Aranita, CSJ, 651-690-7026. The travelers also will be meeting with several “Grandmother Circles” to share stories of their lives as women. This sharing of stories is an important part of the Kenyan culture.
Since each person in the group is paying her own way, a fundraiser will be held to cover transportation expenses while in Africa, food costs, and for supplies to carry out the proposed projects. There will be an Open House on Saturday, April 10, 12 noon-4 p.m., at Karleen Reller's home,1968 Stanford Ave., St. Paul. Homemade soups and breads will be served for a free will donation. Come, meet the travelers, and help them support this work of global community building.
