Relational Spirituality

"The Sister of St. Joseph moves always towards profound love of God and love of neighbor without distinction."  - from the Consensus Statement of the Sisters of Saint Joseph

The Sisters of St. Joseph and Consociates are committed to serving the neighbor, particularly the economically deprived.  We strive to meet the unmet needs of those who seem to have no voice.  Our mission is to continue the work of Jesus' gospel by responding to the spiritual and material need of the neighbor.

Every few years we gather in an extended period of discernment called Chapter to pray about and discuss our mission and ministry.  Read our Acts of Chapter. Our spirituality doesn't separate our CSJ identity from the Gospel call to be one with the neighbor.  We commit ourselves to find ways meet the unmet needs of the voiceless in our society.  In so doing, we move closer to unity with the Sacred --- each other --- the neighbor --- all creation.

Ways to Pray-Sharing the Heart
A practice called "Sharing the Heart" is the spiritual discipline unique to the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
Spiritual Direction
Regular meetings with a spiritual director are an important part of their faith journey for many people.
Acts of Chapter
Our Acts of Chapter are the product of an intense discernment process that occurs for our congregation about every 5 or 6 years. They sum up our common vision for our work in the world, and our understanding of our purpose and direction.
Holistic Approaches
A holistic spirituality grows out of a gospel worldview which integrates body, mind and spirit.
Relational Spirituality-Trinity
As Christians we believe in a totally amazing mystery. We believe that the great and loving Creator of the universe whom we call God, asked a young Jewish teen-aged virgin named Mary if she would be willing to be impregnated by the Divine Spirit, and told her that the baby would be called the Son of God.
Retrieval of the Cosmos in Theology
A view of the whole world as God's good creation is an inclusive turn to the heavens and the earth, a return to cosmology, in order to restore fullness of vision and get theology back on the track from which it diverged a few hundred years ago.
Consensus Statement of the Sisters of Saint Joseph
Written in 1969 by a team of Sisters of St. Joseph who spent a summer in France studying the history and charism of our congregation, this short, pithy statement sums up the charism of our congregation.
