The U.S. Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph condemns the white supremacist violent attack in Buffalo on Saturday. We grieve the profound loss of life at a supermarket, where 10 people were killed and 3 others injured, almost all of whom were Black. We wish to hold space for the trauma and historical oppression Black folks experience. This violent massacre did not happen in isolation.

Please take a moment to pray for each victim. When dignity is robbed from one, it is robbed from all:
Celestine Chaney, 65
Roberta A. Drury, 32
Andre Mackneil, 53
Katherine “Kat” Massey, 72
Margus D. Morrison, 52
Deacon Heyward Patterson, 67
Aaron Salter Jr., 55
Geraldine Talley, 62
Ruth Whitfield, 86
Pearl Young, 77

We acknowledge our ongoing complicity in institutional racism and mourn alongside those who have lost loved ones due to hateful acts of violence. If you are able, please consider supporting a grassroots organization in Buffalo, NY or in your own area:

We vow to use our Gospel charism and mission of unifying love for the healing and transformation of the world to use our collective voice and energy to build God’s beloved community where all are one.
