Lenten Ecology, Prayer, and Practice – Ash Wednesday: February 17

Here is a printable one page version of the below information: 2021 Lenten Program Ash Wednesday

Introduction

“We shall awaken from our dullness and rise vigorously toward justice. If we fall in love with creation deeper and deeper, we will respond to its endangerment with passion”.

– St. Hildegard of Bingen lived from 1098 to 1179.

During this season of Lent, Earth Partners invites you to join us in prayer, reflection and action. Lent is a time to turn back to God, a time to re-awaken, a time to re-orient ourselves spiritually, a time to re-commit ourselves more deeply—a time for conversion. In his 2015 Encyclical Laudato Si’, Pope Francis calls us to Care for Our Common Home. He urges us towards “ecological conversion” and writes that “Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential…” (LS #217). The St. Paul Province Environmental Sustainability Plan Priority Areas are:

  • Zero Waste,
  • Carbon Reduction and Neutrality,
  • and Education/Advocacy/Collaboration.

As Lent begins, we encourage you to start by simply tracking the waste you generate in order to increase your consciousness and awareness. On your refrigerator or bulletin board, keep a sheet of paper to track everything that you put in the garbage. This does not include what you recycle or compost.

Join Legislative Advocacy Partners and Earth Partners for a training/workshop on how to do legislative action related to climate and earth issues on February 22, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.  via this Zoom link (meeting ID: 859 4073 8274, passcode: 204744).
