Once a St. Joseph Worker, Always a St. Joseph Worker

The following is an update from SJW Katy (Brandes) Bright (2007-08), who currently resides in El Paso, Texas.

I started the SJW Program in 2007 and was guided onto a lifelong path of simplicity, solidarity, and community. In 2008, the program supported me during a cross country trek to the US-Mexico border where I continue to work and be challenged daily. After years of working in nonprofits providing hospitality, doing social work, and offering legal services, I decided I wanted to focus on even more basic needs; I wanted do something to ease physical suffering. I graduated from nursing school in December and will soon practice as a registered nurse. This pandemic has brought to light many faults of our society and I hope I can be a positive agent of change: healing individuals, healing humanity.
